The Alchemy of Blue // Collect Art Fair 2022 // Somerset House // London

The Alchemy of Blue is a collaboration between Amélie Crépy, an artist and textile print designer and Jacqueline James, an award-winning rug weaver and dyer. They have been selected to create a unique textile art installation that will be exhibited at Collect Open 2022 as part of the prestigious Collect International Art Fair for Contemporary Craft and Design, organised by the Crafts Council, England. The installation will feature a 7-metre-long, contemporary hand woven and hand-dyed textile art piece, featuring luxurious, natural fibres dyed in woad and indigo, the plants historically used to produce the colour blue for textiles. The artwork aims to expand people's perception of textiles as an art form as well as provoke thought around environmental concerns, sustainability and low impact living. Collect is taking place at Somerset House, London from 25th to 27th February 2022 (Preview days 23rd & 24th Feb). This opportunity was made possible thanks to public funding from the National Lottery through the Arts Council England.
